Math Practice
No timer and no health bar. Work through +, −, × and ÷ at your own pace, and see the right answer whenever you miss one.
How practice works
- One question at a time, for as long as you like. There is no timer and no health bar.
- Miss one and the right answer stays up for a moment before the next question, so the correct fact is the last thing you see.
- The button in the top-left corner pauses, and so does switching to another tab. From the pause menu you can carry on or finish.
- When you finish, you see your accuracy, your average time, your slowest question and the questions you missed, with their answers.
Making practice count
- Get them right before you get them fast. Speed comes from recall, and recall comes from answering correctly many times. Guessing quickly practises guessing.
- Work on one thing at a time. Settings lets you turn operations on and off, remainders included. If division is the slow one, practise only ÷ for a few days.
- Use what you missed. The results list the questions you got wrong. They are usually the same handful of facts, and those are the ones worth repeating.
- Then test yourself. When your accuracy stays high, take the math speed test to see how many you can do in a minute.
The six techniques on the home page turn the harder questions into easy steps, and untimed practice is the best place to try them.
Questions people ask
Is there a time limit?
No. There is no clock and nothing to lose. The results still show your average time per question, so you can see yourself getting quicker without anything rushing you.
How long should I practise for?
A few minutes a day does more than one long session a week. Stop while you are still getting most answers right, and come back tomorrow.
Can I practise only times tables?
Yes. Open Settings, turn off everything except ×, and choose Kids for times tables up to 10 × 10, or Classic for a number up to 12 times a number up to 100. Turn on ÷ as well to practise the same facts backwards.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes. The Kids level keeps the numbers small, and with no timer a child can take as long as they need. Multiple choice is easier on a phone or tablet; typing the answer is the better practice once they are confident.
Is it free?
It is free, with nothing to sign up for or install. Your settings are kept in your browser, so they are still there next time.
When you want a challenge
The main trainer plays Survival, where health drains and right answers win it back, and the speed test gives you one or two minutes to answer as many as you can. Your level and operations come with you when you switch.
